Organic Virgin coconut oil, without the coconut taste

Organic Virgin coconut oil, without the coconut taste
So I have been hearing all the rage over coconut oil. and how it's a healthy fat. So I decided to try it. Now I like coconut on some things, but to have something battered in coconut like coconut shrimp where you can really taste the coconut I don't care for. So yes for this reason I was a bit skeptical about my food having a strong coconut taste. Well, I have tried it, and no you do not have your food all tasting like coconut! I've used it to saute vegetables and also for main dishes. I made a mexican dish called arroz con pollo, which is chicken and rice. I used the coconut oil to fry my rice, which it browned up the same as if I was using my normal olive oil. Now while I am cooking with the coconut oil, it does smell like strong coconut. After serving the dish I was expecting either my husband or the kids to say "why does it taste different" or "Did you put coconut in there?" But they never said anything about it tasting like coconut! After dinner I asked my husband if he didn't notice anything different! He said no, that the food was good. The coconut oil itself was easy to use. It reminds me of shortening but not so solid. More like a soft solid. You just scoop a little out and put in heated pan. Coconut oil isn't just for cooking either. It can also be used on hair and skin, making both softer. I myself will mainly be using this coconut oil for cooking and using in recipes. This is a twin pack so you could use one just for cooking and the other for experimenting with, if you want to try it for on your hair and skin. The coconut oil is easy to use for cooking and you would use it like you do any other oil. I normally use olive oil but this one is good too and it's also organic. I will definitely be looking into buying some more when I run out. I did receive this item in exchange for my honest unbiased review.

Great product, fast ship. We use it in almost everything we cook, and here are 80 ways to use it.
    Personal Hygiene/Body:

    1. Moisturizer – simply scoop some out of the jar and apply all over your body, including neck and face.
    2. Eye cream – apply under the eyes to reduce puffiness, bags, and wrinkles. Use on the lids in the evening.
    3. Pre-shave – coconut oil will prep skin for the pending damage caused by shaving.
    4. Aftershave – coconut oil will help heal your skin after shaving without clogging pores.
    5. Deodorant – coconut oil alone can be used as a deodorant, but even more effective in combination with cornstarch/arrowroot powder and baking soda!
    6. Hair Conditioner/Deep Treatment - use as a leave in hair conditioner by applying a teaspoon of coconut oil to your ends and then running your fingers through your hair to distribute the rest! For a deeper treatment, rub in a tablespoon of coconut oil onto your dry scalp and gently work through to the ends. Put a shower cap on to prevent transfer onto bed linens and leave on overnight.
    7. Hair Gel/Defrizzer – rub a little between your palms and either scrunch into hair (for curly hair) or finger comb in through from scalp to ends (for wavy/straight hair).
    8. Toothpaste – there are numerous recipes out there but I just mix coconut oil and baking soda and dab a little of the mix on my toothbrush.
    9. Make up remover – use a cotton swab and a dab of coconut oil and you would be amazed at how well it works!
    10. Chapstick – just rub a little into lips and it not only acts as a softening agent but it also has an SPF of about 4 so you get a little protection!
    11. Massage Oil – pretty simple; grab some and rub!
    12. Lubricant – it is an all natural, perfectly safe personal lubricant. Not compatible with latex!
    13. Sunscreen
    14. Stretch Mark Cream – coconut oil is great at nourishing damaged skin. It may not be the magic stretch mark cure but it will help.
    15. Nipple Cream – works great to nourish cracked, sore, or dry nipples. Apply to a cotton ball and leave on your nipples between feedings.
    16. Diaper salve – very comforting on a rash bum with no harsh chemicals. Also safe for cloth diapers.
    17. Cradle cap – having issues with dry skin on your baby’s scalp? Coconut oil will not only nourish your baby’s skin, it also helps eliminate cradle cap. Just rub a teaspoon onto scalp daily.
    18. Body scrub – mix coconut oil and sugar together and rub all over! Rinse off and your skin will be super soft! You can add in essential oils if you would like a specific smell.
    19. Healing - when applied on scrapes and cuts, coconut oil forms a thin, chemical layer which protects the wound from outside dust, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil speeds up the healing process of bruises by repairing damaged tissues. Plus, it smells a heck-of-a-lot better than anything from the pharmacy.
    20. Bug Bites – when applied directly to a bug bite, coconut oil can stop the itching and burning sensation as well as hasten the healing process.
    21. Skin problems – coconut oil relieves skin problems such as psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema.
    22. Swimmers Ear – mix garlic oil and coconut oil and put a few drops in affected ear for about 10 minutes. Do this 2-3 times a day and it usually works within one or two days.

    General Health and Wellness

    23. Stress Relief - relieve mental fatigue by applying coconut oil to the head in a circular, massaging motion. The natural aroma of coconuts is extremely soothing thus helping to lower your stress level.
    24. Digestion - the saturated fats in coconut oil have anti-bacterial properties that help control, parasites, and fungi that cause indigestion and other digestion related problems such as irritable bowel syndrome. The fat in coconut oil also aids in the absorption of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, making you healthier all around.
    25. Fitness - coconut oil has been proven to stimulate your metabolism, improve thyroid function, and escalate energy levels, all of which help decrease your unwanted fat, while increasing muscle.
    26. Nose bleeds - coconut oil can prevent nose bleeding that is caused by sensitivity to weather such as extreme hotness and extreme coldness. This condition happens when the nasal passages become dry because of cold or dry air resulting to burns and cracks in the mucus membranes so bleeding happens. To prevent this just put coconut oil in you nostrils. Coat your finger with coconut oil and then lie down and coat your finger inside your nose. Doing this will strengthen and protect the capillaries in the nasal passages. A Vitamin C supplement will also help prevent nose bleeding.
    27. For breastfeeding moms, consuming 3 ½ tablespoons of coconut oil daily will enrich your milk supply.
    28. Helps with weight loss & controlling cravings.
    29. Helps keep blood sugar levels stable and/or helps with cravings in those with diabetes.

Had a smartie send me a ugly comment about it not helping Alzheimer's. Well this was on facebook
    CBN News
Coconut Oil Touted as Alzheimer's Remedy: Steve Newport's Alzheimer's has slowed considerably over the years. Some of his symptoms even reversed, thanks to the unlikely treatment prescribed by his wife, a physician.

Dr. Newport became determined to help her husband after the severity of his disease was discovered through an Alzheimer's test in which the person being tested is asked to draw a picture of a clock. When she tried a new coconut oil regime, in only 3 weeks she began to reverse the signs of Alzheimer's.

"He was not able to run. He was able to run again," she recalled. "He could not read for about a year and a half, but after two or three months he was able to read."

"Instead of being very sluggish, not talking very much in the morning, he would come out in the morning with energy, talkative, and joking, and he could find his water and his utensils," Dr. Newport said.

Great coconut oil. Great for eating or skincare

I was almost put off using coconut oil entirely, after purchasing another brand (I think NOW was it, but different packaging). It came hard as a rock, yellow-looking and smelled pretty foul (almost sickly-sweet) - certainly nothing like coconut. I literally was chipping it out of the jar, and melting it was near impossible. Eventually, I realized that I was dealing with rancid oil, so it's pretty fortunate that I didn't use it all that often. Yuck.

After watching a view Youtube videos for hair care, I noticed everyone's was white, creamy and you could easily scoop it out of the jar, so I decided to give it another shot and purchased Nutiva in February 2011. I'm so glad I did, too, because this stuff is great and for a number of things, some of which caught me off guard.

    - Cooking -
I enjoy cooking with it now and then, especially with my quick-fix quesadillas when I don't have time to cook anything else. However, it doesn't work on everything due to the subtle yet nutty flavor it can give, but I do like it for frying. Your place will smell like coconut when you fry with it, as a warning. I do love how fast it heats up, though.

    - Hair -
I originally intended to use this for hair and as a deep conditioning mask. I am biracial, with 3A/3b and a tinge of 3C hair. While I usually prefer to have it relaxed, I decided to give it a break due to lack of funds. The hard water we have here has been wreaking havoc on my hair and it's been in need of a trim for a while, but this stuff has greatly improved things, and it even can be used (lightly) to help tame frizz to some degree as a leave-in. My ringlets are back and the best-looking they've been since I can remember, and all I've been using since then is just Aphogee Green Tea spray, coconut oil and occasional argan oil.

    - Skin -
I consistently use this on my body and at night as skin cream. For the face, you only need a tiny, tiny amount. It also helps to tame down blemishes, which is a bonus, and leaves skin glowy. Last year or the year before, I also developed what looked like flesh-colored moles, which I thought were blemishes at first, but I can't be certain. Nothing I did would get rid of them though, until I started using the oil, which I found odd, but at least it worked! All in all, my skin has dramatically improved using this, with the help of some other products, and I don't feel I have to wear foundation.

    - Pets -
I give 1/2 tbls. to my cats and 1 tbls. to my dog a few times a week to help maintain their coats and keep their skin nice. It seems to be doing great and they've stopped driving me mental with scratching. I also tried it in hopes of helping my dog with her seizures. While it's not a drastic improvement, they have been fewer in between, which may or may not have a connection. I just mix it in their food maybe 2-3 days a week (ask your vet about how often, especially if they have health problems), and they love it. Even my female cat, who's picky about what she'll eat licks at the oil before she munches away.

    - Warts -
Short of the suspicious-looking things on my face at one point, I don't get moles, warts, or even freckles. However, I did get one whopping wart on the top of my big toe last year, which nothing would get rid of. I tried apple cider vinegar, wart patches and gels - you name it; I tried it. Not only did it hurt like crazy and work slowly, but it never got rid of it. All I did get was a scar and a lot of grief, only for it to return a few weeks later.

When I started using coconut oil on the skin, I realized one day, like with my face, that my wart that had grown back was getting smaller. I kept watching it and finally realized the connection. I started using bandaids and applied a glob of oil on the spot before bed and then really started noticing results. This wart was the size of a chick pea (sorry to be gross lol), but now you can't see anything.

I finally looked things up and realized that it was the acid in the oil that attacks lipid-coated virus cells, such as what's associated with HPV (warts), so I guess it makes sense. I was surprised though! I can tell due to the texture of the skin that it's not 100% gone (roots), but it still getting better and I'm not embarrassed anymore. It took about a month, but the more painful options took just as long and this is pain-free. So, it's something to try!

Love this stuff and can't stop raving about it. I'm going to purchase more soon in this size to keep one in my kitchen and one in my bathroom again, plus a larger one for the mutts. The bathroom one still has plenty in it, despite me using it near-daily.

I make a point to buy Nutiva. I believe they're a good company with a good product.
I'm still waiting for Nutiva to get their ethical accreditation though.

This coconut oil works for everything from squeaky hinges to desserts to skin care. I make a lotion that is my go-to face to feet. It makes great lip balm. Soothes scrapes and cuts. I use it liberally in my baked goods and in my cooking. Makes for yummy kitty treats, great for their skin and coat.
It is oily in consistency ...but it's oil. It has a low melting point.
This is the first time I received my bulk order of cold pressed unrefined and the oil has melted and reformed enough times for bubbles/pockets of air to form in the oil in one of the tubs. No leakage.

    seller review:
I ordered this on December 23rd but it didn't charge my account until January 6th. Charging for items two weeks after the actual purchase is bad practice for both purchaser and seller. Not good. One star down for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many health benefits in coconut oil

Love, love, love! I've been buying Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut oil for years now. Its a much healthier alternative to any other oil. We use it to cook with as it has a higher heat resistance so doesn't oxidise like olive oil or other cooking oils do. It makes a great alternative to butter or margarine, the taste is really subtle and doesn't interfere with other flavours. We also take a spoonful a day as a supplement as it contains the good saturated fats - which are harmless and which give you more energy. My partner also moisturises with it and I'm going to try using it as deep conditioning treatment for my hair as I read it works really well. I'll update on that once I've tried it.

There are so many benefits for using coconut oil its worth doing a little bit of your own research to read them all. I highly recommend using the Nutiva brand because its cold pressed, organic and virgin.

This tub of coconut oil will last us about 4 months and we use it a lot, every day. Enjoy!

I have been using this product for over two years on my hair and cooking. Since I stated using to add in my deep conditioning for my Afro hair and as a pre-shampoo treatment. My hair now very thick and healthy. Coconut oil penetrate the hair follicle and closes cuticles. I use this particular oil because it is extra virgin or cold pressed. It has not been exposed to extreme heat like other oils on the market. I also use it by adding to Shea butter for body cream. It is divine. Highly recommended.
