5 Reasons Why Healing Takes Time

Look, I get it. We all want the quick fix—that one magical session that’s going to solve everything that’s been building up since your third-grade teacher called you out for talking too much in class. But here’s the thing about energetic healing work: it’s not a one-and-done situation. As someone who’s been peeling back my own emotional onion for years now, I want to share why this journey takes time—and why that’s actually a good thing.

1. Your Body Has Been Storing This Stuff for Decades (And Some of It Isn’t Even Yours)

Think about it. That time your high school boyfriend dumped you before prom? Still there. The moment you froze during your big presentation at work ten years ago? Yep, your body remembers. These energies have been camping out in your system since you could first “feel”. You can’t expect to clear out decades of emotional baggage in an hour, no matter how good your practitioner is.

But here’s the mind-blowing part—some of these trapped emotions aren’t even from your own experiences. Dr. Nelson’s research shows that we can inherit trapped emotions from our ancestors through epigenetic transmission. That irrational fear of water? Could be from your great-grandmother’s traumatic experience. That inexplicable anger that rises when someone questions your authority? Might be inherited from your grandfather who lived through wartime rationing and government control.

When I first started doing energy healing, I was shocked to discover trapped emotions from when I was FIVE. Five! I didn’t even remember the incident, but my body sure did. Even more surprising were the inherited emotions we uncovered—overwhelm passed down through 7 generations of women in my family from my father’s side, directly affecting my relationships today. I would not have found those if I hadn’t done more than one session.

2. Your Body Can Only Process So Much at Once

Here’s something they don’t tell you: your body has its own timeline for healing. Your body can only handle so much at a time before it needs to integrate and process.

After each Body Code session, your body needs 1-5 days to process the emotions released. I needed to drink water, take naps, pray, and just let my system calibrate. This is a totally normal healing path—your body is literally rewiring neural pathways that have been established for years. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your emotional freedom won’t be either.

3. The Onion Effect Is Real, People

The deeper layers can’t come up until the surface ones are cleared. It’s like cleaning out your garage—you have to move the dusty exercise equipment before you can get to those boxes of college memorabilia underneath.

In my own journey, I first cleared emotions around abundance and confidence in launching my own business, which then revealed deeper emotions about my fear of failure, which THEN revealed even deeper emotions about how I never felt good enough growing up. Each layer opened the door to the next, more significant revelation.

4. Heart Walls Take Time to Dismantle

If you’ve built a heart wall (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t after living through the PLANdemic), that thing is FORTIFIED. Mine was made of titanium, apparently—the energetic equivalent of a bunker. It might be time to start unraveling that emotional bunker. The beautiful thing is, as each brick comes down, you’ll feel the difference.

5. Maintenance Is a Thing

Even after you’ve done the deep work, life keeps happening. Your mother-in-law still makes those passive-aggressive comments about your parenting. Your boss still sends emails at 11 PM. New trapped emotions can form if you’re not mindful.

I advise doing a session every couple of weeks, just to make sure you’re not building up new emotional gunk. Think of it like dental cleanings for your energy field—regular check-ins keep everything flowing smoothly so you don’t end up needing the emotional equivalent of a root canal.

The Bottom Line

If you’re considering Body Code energy healing work, first of all—good for you. It’s been transformative for me and my family. Just go in with realistic expectations. This isn’t a one-session miracle (though you’ll likely feel shifts right away). It’s more like emotional archaeology—carefully excavating layers of your life to find the treasures buried underneath all that protective dirt.

And trust me, the dig is worth it. After consistent work, I’m calmer, I sleep better, I am less anxious with my family, and—perhaps most shocking—I haven’t been as irritable at the end of the day during bedtime when my kid won’t go to sleep in at least a month. Now THAT’S progress.
